C.R. STECYK III ROGUE PRINTSHOP AND INSTALLATION

PHOTOS BY DAN LEVY

On the rare occasion, you may get a chance to meet your idols and have a conversation that will stay in your permanent story telling roster for life. It is even more out of the ordinary to actually be able to take part in the creative process with those you hold in high acclaim. The students of the California State University at Northridge, along with a lucky few, were able to do just that. The one and only C.R. Stecyk III led an interactive rogue printshop for aspiring art students of the university utilizing the techniques of silk screening and artistic lithography. Stecyk along with the students produced a body of work based around the concept of rogue signage, and the art was then hung up around the campus for all to see. The workshop went for three days and ended with a question and answer session with Craig, following a rare video installation . It was truly a one of a kind experience and the students were able to get a glimpse into what it really takes to be a professional artist.

Stecyk, a world-famous CSUN alumnus and multi-disciplinary artist, is active in printmaking, photography and design, and has presented a variety of media through a combination of guerrilla street installations and gallery exhibitions. Much respect to C.R.S.

The CSUN West Gallery, Art and Design Center, is in Room 201, 18111 Nordhoff St. Northridge, CA. Gallery Hours: Mon-Sat. 12-4pm. Thurs 12-8pm. Installation dates. Oct. 7-8 and Oct 10, 2011
