SCION A/V SET TO RELEASE NEW MELVINS EP, SCION A/V PRESENTS: THE BULLS & THE BEES, ON MAR. 13

Scion A/V Sponsoring Spring U.S. Tour

Feb. 23, Torrance, Calif. –  Scion A/V has partnered with the Melvins for an EP titled Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees,  a five-song collection that marks the band’s first original material since their 2010 album The Bride Screamed Murder.   The release will be available as a free download on Mar. 13 via Scion A/V’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/scionav) with “The War On Wisdom” streaming this Friday on Pitchfork.com.

The Melvins formed in 1983, kicking off what would be a seismic shift in heavy music and focusing the epicenter of modern music firmly on the Pacific Northwest for the next decade plus.  The band blended punk, metal, hard rock  to create a new subgenre that has been tagged with a variety of labels including sludge, grunge and doom and won a cult of fans that have yet to waiver some twenty-nine years into the band’s career.  Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover have been the band’s constants (Crover joined in 1984) with Big Business’ Jared Warren and Coady Willis joining the band in 2006 for (A) Senile Animal.

“The Melvins have remained such a consistent presence in heavy music,” says Jeri Yoshizu, manager of sales promotions for Scion.  “It’s an honor to have them create an original release for Scion A/V.”

Osborne described Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees  as “amazing in its noisy calm intensity.”

Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees Track Listing:
1.  The War on Wisdom
2.  We Are Doomed
3.  Friends Before Larry
4.  A Really Long Wait
5.  National Hamster

the AGGRONAUTS are marching on your town, a three piece siege engine. Hell-bent on crumbling the walls of a musical complacency that currently imprisons us all. So Cal Punk band that features members of D.I., SX-10 & Cypress Hill. SIX CENTS are from Pacific Beach and have been playin, together for a LONG time. Growin up in the southern California punk scene, these guys have earned their street credibility in more ways than one (believe that). The music is an array of punk, metal, rock and roll, ska and reggae. The live shows are a blast from the past with high energy and a stage performance second to none. CHANGO’S PSYCHOTIC GARAGE are delving into that whole Cleveland/NYC Punk ala 1977 scene with Dead Boys riffs along with Ramones & Heartbreakers snottiness.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH
DARSOMBRA
TOTIMOSHI
RIVERVERB

DOORS: 9 PM / SHOW: 10 PM

DARSOMBRA is the audio/visual duo of Brian Daniloski and Ann Everton. Daniloski builds a leviathan of sound by layering guitar and vocals, drawing from traditions as disparate as doom, space and southern rock, modern classical, and musique concrete. Ann Everton’s psychotropic video work teleports the audience to an intergalactic journey of the soul in the vein of the last 30 minutes of “2001: A Space Odyssey”. TOTIMOSHI – Founded in 1997 have been forging their own path for well over a decade. Based on their love of Rock, some Metal, some Jazz, some Classical, some Rag, some Dixieland, some Blues, and some Mariachi, Totimoshi set out to be slaves to no one genre. They have released 5 albums to date and their 6th “Avenger” will soon be released and will tear your heart out. We promise. RIVERVERB is Frank Melendez, co-founder of Sprung Monkey in 1989, though he left the group a few years later in search of more challenging musical adventures and Jay Margart of Sugarrush Railroad Inc. Experimental Noise, if you will with deep seeded influences of Throbbing Gristle, Royal Trux, Spacemen 3 & the Dead C.

THIS SHOW IS BEING HELD AT THE EPICENTRE & IT IS ALL AGES!!!!!!!

In 1980, British punk / metal crossover band ENGLISH DOGS was formed and gained immediate acclaim with top 10 indie chart releases. Though these initial releases were more straight-forward punk rock, the band’s metal leanings appeared on the highly acclaimed “Forward Into Battle” record, released in 1985. The seminal album was a major influence on bands such as METALLICA and SEPULTURA, and this year the “Forward Into Battle” lineup of founding-member Andrew “Pinch” Pinching (also of THE DAMNED), Graham “Gizz” Butt (ex-PRODIGY, THE MORE I SEE) and Adie Bailey has re-grouped to again bring that record to life for North America. Support on the trek will come from THE CASUALTIES, TOXIC HOLOCAUST and HAVOK.

Commented Gizz: “In 1984 to 1986, me , Pinch and Adie were writing and recording some of the most important and influential songs of our lives and our ‘Forward into Battle’ album was the peak of our success. The American fans completely got it. Crossover had arrived!! Our 1985 debut USA tour exploded with sellout shows and sights we’d never seen before, queues half a mile down the street, moshpits and circle pits all night long. We have finally reunited to achieve a dream that has been going on for over 25 years. To realize the entire ‘Forward Into Battle’ album, along with ‘To The Ends Of The Earth’ EP, another ambitious milestone, live in all their glories, to North America.”

Added founding ENGLISH DOGS member Pinch: “We were young and hungry for a musical challenge. The hardcore punk scene had become stagnant and new territories needed exploring. Adding Gizz to the band let us off the leash and we were able to wander down any musical alley we chose. We were 20 years old when we recorded ‘Forward Into Battle’, playing way beyond our abilities as musicians and lacking the studio technology to capture it. Now, 25 years later, we will finally be able to do this album justice, sonically. Live and in your face, the genre we helped to create is going once more ‘Forward Into Battle’.”

Saturday, 11th of February 2012: Spectators at Waitangi Park today witnessed Pedro Barros (Pros) and Pat Ngoho (Masters) take the title as winners of BOWL-A-RAMA™ Wellington for the third year in a row for both of them, in what event organisers are calling the biggest line up of talent to grace the park since the inception of the event in 2008.

A total prize pool of over $20,000 had both local and international riders pulling out the big moves, on the 2nd stop of the officially sanctioned World Cup Skateboarding  (WCS) event. “I’ve had to judge a few events in my time, this one was definitely one of the most difficult,” states Sasha Steinhorst Head Judge from WCS. “Not many people doubt that Pedro is the King of Concrete and he showed us why, he casually toyed with the pool and he rifled off the big level tricks that gave him his 3rd straight Wellington win.” He Comments.

Steinhorst was also taken a back with the talent of new comer to the BOWL-A-RAMA™ series, Kevin Kowalski.

“To the delight of the crowds and every concrete skateboarder we witnessed the absolute genius of Kevin Kowalski, he deservedly earned a first place spot into the final and in the final he unleashed a barage of little seen or never seen tricks. Finesse, style and spontaneous trick selection kept the crowd begging for more. “

“We are stoked to have been able to bring BOWL-A-RAMA™ back to Wellington. The skate culture here is only growing and we hope to be an instrumental part of that for many years to come,” comments Chad Ford, professional skateboarder and Founding Partner of Frontside Events.

“Pat Ngoho showcases skateboarding in its most refined form and because of that he deservedly won his third BOWL-A-RAMA™ Wellington Masters title in a row. There are very few skaters in the world that understand the best skating is a mixture of form and function and when you see that live you become a fan for life.”

Competition day, Saturday the 11th of February, wraps up the week of official festivities that BOWL-A-RAMA™ brings to Wellington including music & art shows, but both crowds and competitors are anticipating it’s return next year.

“BOWL-A-RAMA™ is one of my favourite times of the year… I’m always ready for it to roll around.” Mike Bancroft, professional local skateboarder.

The stands are packed away for another year in Wellington, as riders get ready to take on BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi, Saturday 25th of February.
