BRUCE LEE fans:  Little Dragon is back on the big screen!  The first documentary with the full participation of Lee’s family!

Premiere Screening Event for Documentary Film
Feb 9th and 15th in 170 Theaters in 60+ Cities Nationwide
Bruce Lee returns to the big screen in the Year of the Dragon!

(Los Angeles, CA)  January 2012 –On Thursday, February 9th and Wednesday, February 15th the new feature length documentary film, I Am Bruce Lee, will be released exclusively in 170 theaters in 60+ cities across the U.S.

Bruce Lee was born in the Year of the Dragon, his stage name was “Little Dragon”, and his most famous film was “Enter the Dragon”, so it’s only appropriate that his return to the big screen debuts as Chinese New Year begins – 2012 is The Year of the Dragon.

I Am Bruce Lee tells the amazing story of one of the most iconic human beings ever to enter the public consciousness. Voted as one of the most important people of the 20th century in Time Magazine’s Time 100, as well as one of the Greatest Pop Culture Icons by People Magazine, Bruce Lee continues to be honored and remembered for his enduring legacy.

The documentary is produced by award-winning studio Network Entertainment, the producers of 2010’s Academy Award shortlisted documentary Facing Ali, and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Pete McCormack.

I Am Bruce Lee is the first documentary to truly tell Bruce Lee’s story in his own words and actions, as well as through the eyes of a diverse cast of international stars from the worlds of film, television, music and sports.

The film’s original interviews feature a broad spectrum of worldwide stars, including UFC President Dana White who calls Lee the “Father of Mixed Martial Arts,” NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, boxing champions Manny Pacquiao and Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, UFC stars Jon Jones, Cung Le, Stephan Bonnar and Gina Carano, actor and star of the hit show ‘Modern Family’ Ed O’Neill, Academy Award Nominated actor Mickey Rourke, the Black Eye Peas’ Taboo, Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee and his wife Linda Lee Cadwell, among many others.

I Am Bruce Lee presents a rich cinematic view of the life of Bruce Lee, and features the best of Bruce Lee’s groundbreaking martial arts action films, punctuated with an evocative score and rarely seen archival footage. Working with Bruce’s daughter Shannon Lee, the film features previously unseen home movies and interviews, classic photos and dynamic visuals and graphics. “My family and I are so proud of this film, which truly portrays the legacy of my father and his incredible story,” says executive producer Shannon Lee.

“Our goal was to bring Bruce Lee and his dynamic personality to life in a way never experienced before, and we were able to achieve this with amazing content and our dynamic cast. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will walk out of the theater inspired by the spirit of the remarkable Bruce Lee,” commented producer Derik Murray.

To support the screening events, there will be a robust on-line campaign with multiple opportunities to connect via Facebook, Twitter and other online platforms.

The documentary is being distributed for the screening events by D&E Entertainment, a company specializing in alternative theatrical programming.  *Cities and theaters listed below.

HURLEY TO DEBUT “FIN,” A SHORT FILM AND CORRESPONDING T-SHIRT COLLECTION BY ICONIC WRITER, PRODUCER AND ARTIST C.R. STECYK III FILM TO DEBUT AT HURLEY’S H SPACE GALLERIES IN COSTA MESA, BALI & JAPAN

Hurley has announced that they will partner with iconic artist C.R. Stecyk III to debut his new short film FIN on February 8th at Hurley’s H Space Gallery in Costa Mesa, CA. Taking inspiration from the film, Hurley is also creating a limited-edition printables collection featuring art and photography captured during the film’s creation.

“Stecyk is both a celebrated chronicler of the art, surf and skate cultures as well as a longtime friend to the Hurley brand.  When he told us of his plans for the film, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work together to bring his vision to life,” states Jason Maloney, Hurley’s Director of Art.

FIN, the first installment in an evolutionary series of digital film shorts, details Stecyk’s method of working with a wide variety of personages in the southern California region and reflects the social and sonic landscapes in which these creators inhabit. People whose work has been documented so far include Von Dutch, Ed “Big Daddy” Roth,  Evel Knievel, Dave Sweet, Julian Ness, Tom Blake, Dale Velzy, Tyler Hatzikian, Scott Anderson, Mitch Abshere, Scotty Stopnick, Mike Ness, and Roland Sands.  The featured soundtrack is also a nod to West Coast visionaries, with Social Distortion, Breakdown, Tommy Guerrero and Steve Alba and the Powerflex 5 contributing to the project.

“FIN investigates artisan garage culture.  It will offer insights into an assortment of individuals who incorporate traditional do-it-yourself garage methodology into differing pursuits such as traditional modified vehicles, surfboards, skateboards, art, music and communications,” states Stecyk.

The subsequent printables collection will feature a series of 4 t-shirts showcasing exclusive artwork and still photography captured during the making of FIN.  The printables collection will be available for purchase on Hurley.com in conjunction with the film’s Costa Mesa debut on February 8th.  The film will then travel to Hurley’s additional H Space galleries in Bali and Tokyo for international premieres.

SPLINTERS is the first feature-length documentary film about the evolution of indigenous surfing in the developing nation of Papua New Guinea. In the 1980s an intrepid Australian pilot left behind a surfboard in the seaside village of Vanimo. Twenty years on, surfing is not only a pillar of village life but also a means to prestige. With no access to economic or educational advancement, let alone running water and power, village life is hermetic. A spot on the Papua New Guinea national surfing team is the way to see the wider world; the only way.

LOOK INTO IT IF YOU KNOW HOW at the NEW IMAGE ART GALLERY

“Look into it – if you know how…” A new show by longtime artist and friend, Rich Jacobs opens Saturday, January 28, 2012. In this new exhibition, Jacobs leads with the feelings associated with the creative process. In making abstract work the artist investigates the question of why he himself is drawn to making things. Jacobs’s newest body of work shows a more mature departure from his well-known figurative character heads that we have seen in the past, yet follow the same atonal rhythms that his music displays. With almost 100 new pieces including works on wood, pencil drawings, renderings, and patterns, Jacobs modestly asks that viewer just consider his works for a brief moment. “Beauty is a rare thing” says the artist, he hopes one will be inspired to make things after viewing the show. “Just a glance” he requests, “a look into it – if you can.”

Coinciding with this new exhibition will be a small “Move” group show, curated by Rich Jacobs. Featuring one piece each by artists: Sandy Yang, Aya Muto, Jeff Canham, Amanda Marsalis, James Gallagher, Billy Sprague, Orion Shepherd , Kelly Nicholson, Jordin Isip, Simone Shubuck, Erika Barboa, Clint Woodside, Tim Kerr, and possibly more. Each artist has been selected by Jacobs to show the influences and sometimes inspirations for his abstract works. As one approaches the gallery entrance -the viewer will instantly be asked a lot to visually consider. is it a large group show or the work of one artist? there seems to be groups of work that seem informed by one another but only somewhat loosely…there is a line that ties them together-what is it? It my just be the line, the energy, the color….wow the palette has changed some over the years too…a little brighter and hopeful this time. We invite you to “Look into it – if you know how.”
